Publication Rights & Licensing Policy

This Publication Rights & Licensing Policy explains how intellectual property rights, publishing rights, and licensing arrangements are handled by Bookbins Private Limited (“Bookbins”, “we”, “our”, “us”) in relation to works submitted, published, or distributed through our platform.

This policy applies to all authors, contributors, licensors, and rights holders engaging with Bookbins.

1. Purpose of This Policy

The purpose of this policy is to ensure:

  • Transparency in rights ownership
  • Clear understanding of licensing arrangements
  • Protection of author and publisher interests
  • Compliance with Indian intellectual property laws

This policy must be read in conjunction with individual publishing agreements.

2. Ownership of Copyright

Unless expressly transferred through a written and signed agreement:

  • The author retains full copyright ownership of their work
  • Bookbins does not claim ownership by default
  • Submission of a manuscript does not constitute transfer of rights

All rights not expressly granted remain with the author.

3. Types of Publication Rights

Depending on the agreement, the following rights may be licensed to Bookbins:

  • Print publishing rights
  • Digital (eBook) publishing rights
  • Audiobook rights
  • Translation rights
  • Distribution rights
  • Marketing and promotional usage rights

Each right is separately definable and subject to contractual consent.

4. Nature of License Granted

Unless otherwise agreed:

  • Licenses granted to Bookbins are limited, non-exclusive, and revocable
  • Rights are granted solely for the purpose of publication, distribution, and promotion
  • No sublicensing is permitted without explicit written consent

Exclusive licenses, if any, must be clearly stated in a formal agreement.

5. Territory & Language

Publication rights may be granted for:

  • India only
  • Specific regions
  • Worldwide distribution

Language rights (original or translated) are defined separately and do not automatically extend to all languages.

6. Duration of License

  • Licensing duration is defined in the publishing agreement
  • Upon expiry or termination, rights revert to the author unless otherwise stated
  • Continued use beyond the agreed term is not permitted without renewal

7. Author Representations & Warranties

By granting rights, the author confirms that:

  • They are the lawful owner of the work
  • The work is original and non-infringing
  • All third-party permissions have been obtained
  • The work does not violate any laws or rights

The author agrees to indemnify Bookbins against legal claims arising from breaches of these representations.

8. Moral Rights

Bookbins fully respects the moral rights of authors, including:

  • Right of attribution
  • Right to object to derogatory treatment of work

No alteration or adaptation is made without consent unless contractually permitted.

9. Promotional Usage Rights

Authors grant Bookbins the right to:

  • Use excerpts, cover images, author names, and book descriptions
  • Promote the work across websites, marketplaces, social media, and marketing materials

Such usage does not affect ownership rights.

10. Termination & Rights Reversion

Rights may be terminated:

  • As per contractual terms
  • In case of policy breach
  • By mutual written consent

Upon termination:

  • Licensed rights revert to the author
  • Bookbins ceases new distribution (existing inventory may be cleared unless otherwise agreed)

11. Dispute Resolution

Any dispute related to publication rights or licensing shall:

  • Be governed by the laws of India
  • Fall under the jurisdiction of courts in Gandhinagar, Gujarat

12. Policy Updates

Bookbins reserves the right to amend this policy at any time. Updated versions will be posted
with a revised date.

Continued engagement constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
