About the Author 

Sudha Murthy is the chairperson of Infosys Foundation. Apart from that, she is also a businesswoman, philanthropist, educator, and author. To be honest, you can learn more about herself in her book itself. This is because this book contains many of her life experiences. I cannot help mentioning her as a superwoman. She is an engineering graduate, the first woman engineer in her family which is a Conservative brahmin family. Yes, during her time in her state, engineering was considered a man’s job. Sudha Murthy was the only girl in her class as well as college in engineering. Also, she helped her husband in his big dream which was Infosys. She was also an outstanding social worker who helped many people.

Heart touching lessons from the book 

  1. The name Three Thousand stitches came from this lesson. This lesson talks about the Author’s experience with the victims of the devadasi system and the hardships she faced in helping those victims. It is heart-wrenching to know the story of the victims. But, it gave me immense satisfaction that the way Sudha Murthy made their life change.
  2. The second lesson is about the author’s college life. As mentioned earlier, the author was the only girl in her college as engineering was considered a men’s field in those days. You will see a girl who was a brave intelligent student who fought for her dreams to the very end.
  3. In the third lesson, you will learn many things about the origin of fruits and vegetables which we use daily. Spoiler Alert: You will learn that many vegetables we use daily are not from India. You will also learn about some sweets and an interesting story about the Banana tree.
  4. The fourth lesson is mostly about Kashi and the author’s childhood experiences with her grandmother. You will learn many things about Kashi. The author learned about Kashi from her grandmother during her childhood and decided to visit the temple when she grow up.
  5. Many of us today are quick to judge people based on their external appearance. In this lesson, the author shares her personal experience when she was judged as a cattle class woman. And there is a small twist too.
  6. This is the story of her father. Her father is a doctor. When he was posted in a small village, some men forcefully takes him to conduct a delivery for a 16-year-old girl. But, they didn’t have any experience in gynaecology. The doctor also learns that the girl is unmarried and the baby will be killed. What he did do? Was he able to save the mother and her baby?
  7. The seventh lesson talks about many women whose lives are ruined by the promise of a good job and salary abroad. In this story, the author shares her experience of learning about the victim’s cruel slavery method in abroad most victims from India.
  8. Bollywood fans would be really happy and surprised to read this lesson. In addition, the author herself was a vivid lover of Bollywood. So let’s not spoil the surprise here.
  9. In this story, the author writes about her experience when he listened to a religious story. Later in her life, she decided to share two religious stories with her granddaughters. But, decided never to share any religious stories with them after that. To know why, order the boo now and read.
  10. We can travel with Sudha for one day and learn how busy she is not having time for herself. But, still loves the job that she is doing. We can learn humbleness, and how she tackles a situation, in this lesson.
  11. The last lesson is about the effects of alcohol on society. We will learn how many people’s lives were ruined because of this alcohol. Also, we learn about a group called Alcoholic Anonymous which helps in the rehabilitation of alcohol addicts.
