Characters
- Simon Kelleher: His last words, according to Bronwyn, were that he proclaimed himself the “omniscient narrator.” He was an outcast, and he often revealed others’ darkest secrets to keep himself relevant. Sadly, his death gave him the popularity that he so desired when he was alive. He is the antagonist of this book.
● Addy Prentiss: She is the “princess” among the other four in the detention. She was the girlfriend of Jake and Simon’s deaths, and the events that catapulted them apart afterwards tore them apart. Though she was considered weak and needy, she proves that she is made of stronger mettle.
● Jake Riorden: He is a member of the football team and popular at Bayview High. He was in a relationship with Addy prior to Simon’s death. He is known for his bouts of anger and controlling nature.
● Cooper Clay: He is known as the jock among the other four. A star baseball player with a bright future, he struggles with his identity as a closeted gay. He is close to his family and liked by others in the school community.
● Nate McAuley: He is the most notorious of the four and often sells narcotics at Bayview High. The lack of a proper family has an impact on him. His mother is a drug addict, and his father is an alcoholic.
